I read Sheridan Le Fanu’s Carmilla when I was far too young to have … and I have seen every version of it that has ever existed … and I mean EVERY.
This latest from Emily Harris is probably the least interesting one which is shame because the cast is incredible. It never has a chance to even get going. It just spends so much time pushing its own agenda and showing us macro photography of bugs and worms instead of letting the ACTUAL chemistry of the leads to even come through.
I’m a HUGE Jessica Raine fan so I adored watching her in this. She was intense. I’ve never been so worked up watching someone butter toast until just now 🙂
⬅️ Devrim Lingnau gives me the same feels as Nora von Waldstatten … just PINS me to the chair and I can’t look away. She was a great Carmilla … she lured me in and genuinely enticed me every moment she was on screen.
I wanted more from this version … I wanted something better but I couldn’t say what … The original story isn’t that complicated and after all this time so much has been read into it … I guess I just wanted perhaps a different vision … a different FEEL … I dunno …
I just want someone to make Carmilla and do it … RIGHT. Do it justice.
